Teacher Dashboard - Add TD folders to MyDrive

Follow the steps below to share documents in Google Drive with your students with "view only" access. These steps will show you how to organize your documents into the Shared Folders that Teacher Dashboard has created for each of your classes.

It is VERY important that you do NOT rename, delete, nor move any of the Teacher Dashboard folders. Please encourage your students to not do so as well.

Also, it is important to only add the following main folders to MyDrive. Do NOT move the contents of these main folders.

Search for TD folders

Type "tm -shared -drop" in the search bar. This will find the main Teacher Dashboard folders.

Naming scheme

You should see a folder for each section you teach. The format should look like " tm SS7 sbecker H 9 Y-2012" (slightly different than my example).

tm = TeacherDashboard Middle School
SS7 = Short version of class name (This is the label you should use when teaching students to label their Blogger posts.)
sbecker = Teacher's name
H = Block
9 = Section number, from PowerSchool
Y = Term (S1, S2, T1, T2, T3 or Y)
2012 = year

Put a check in front of each folder. Then click the Organize icon.

Organize

Put a checkmark in front of My Drive to add the Teacher Dashboard folders to your My Drive area.

What's inside

Inside each section folder are two folders. One is a Drop folder which includes all of your students' individual drop folders. Expand it to see them all. However, you should never need to go here to see student work. You should use the Teacher Dashboard interface for that.

The other is a Shared Docs folder. It will be empty. Anything you put into this folder will be shared with students as view-only. This means that they can only view what you put there, they cannot edit. If you wanted to, you could put a template in this area and students can "Make a copy" to make their own copy to add to.

Go here for steps on how to make a master shared folder that can be used for all of your classes in order to share resources with teachers.
